Pediatric Grand Rounds - Dr. Wes Stubblefield discusses future AL Medicaid

Alabama Medicaid, like the Medicaid programs in many other states, faces a crisis. Costs and enrollment are increasing but the state's elected representatives desire to keep level and predictable funding. Using a model developed in North Carolina that has proven hundreds of millions of dollars in savings, a pilot project was developed that organized 4 nonprofit corporations in 4 different regions of Alabama. The charge of these organizations was to change the balance of spending by reducing inpatient expenditures and improving outpatient access and care for a vulnerable population. Based on the exciting results of this project, the governor recently recommended that this system be promulgated and developed statewide. Our network, the Care Network of East Alabama, Inc., will inform the Children's Hospital of Alabama administration and staff about its role in health care delivery in east Alabama. Using this information, we hope to create new avenues of communication between our organizations and further improve the ability of Children's to care for Alabama's sickest children. Presented every Thursday at noon.
