Biographical Sketch 
Xincheng Yao, PhD is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Vision Sciences, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Yao was awarded his PhD in Optics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. In 2001, he joined the Biophysics Group of Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Postdoctoral Researcher (2001-2004) and then Technical Staff Member (2004-2006). In 2006, he joined CFD Research Corporation as a Senior Research Scientist. In 2007, he joined the faculty of University of Alabama at Birmingham. His current research interests include biomedical optics and instrumentation, functional imaging of the retina, experimental biophysics of neural systems and pancreatic islets. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles in Neuroimage, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Optics Letters, Optics Express, Journal of Biomedical Optics, etc. He is a recipient of NSF CAREER award and multiple grants from the NIH, DANA foundation, Eyesight Foundation of Alabama, and UASOM Interdisciplinary Institute for Imaging.
